Hello from germany,

I´m a 46 year old busfan from cologne and I collect MAN and Mercedes Buses around the world. Who can help me with a list of the Promet Split citaros with the chassis numbers??

Thanks for your help - Uwe -

Hello,

can someone say me what type of engine and what transmission the Citaro and the Citaro G in Split have?

Urbino LE

OM457 engine with 299PS(Euro4 eco norm) which is to weak for Split topography in articulated buses. Transmission is Voith.

MAN NL 263

Thank you very much for the Information. In the company in Germany where I work we have this Citaros, too. With Voith transmission, too.
But the Solo Citaro has the OM906 with only 6,4 liters. It´s a little bit weak, but economical.

Urbino LE

286PS for solo is not weak, maybe that engine like to rev more than OM457 but certainly it's far less thirsty than OM457.

Surely it's little weird that we have solo and articulated buses with same engines. But it's more weird that Promet Split has not clear policy about purchase of buses. back in 2007 they bought MAN Lion's City both 12m solo and 3 axle solo, both with old Euro3 D2866 engine for solo with 260PS and for 3-axle 310PS but what is more weird both of them were bought half with ZF half with Voith transmission. Then in 2008 they bought Citaros but alongside them semi-floor MAN Lion's Classic form Turkey while it would be more normal if they bought than new model form Mercedes low-floor Conecto from Turkey which is basically poor men Citaro. Finally this year they low-entry bought Irisbus Crossway LE with powerful Iveco Cursor 8 engine(Euro5 eco norm) which has 330PS and after that solo MAN Lion's City with D2066 engine(320PS, EEV eco norm). So we have situation where some solo buses are more powerful than articulated ones.

280 is enough if there isn't many hills in the area where they operates. For cities like Split or Rijeka there must be at least 300 HP, even better if it's 320 or 330. Much power equals less fuel consumption and longer life for the engine. You must also know that in Croatia there is a law that you must take lowest offer at tender.  That is why IVECO buses are more popular than ever before, but we'll see what will come during the years of exploitation.

I think that stands for whole EU for city or state owned companies, but it's easy to write a tender for specific manufacturer.

MAN NL 263

Here in Germany companies often take the most economical offer, not the lowest offer. Because sometimes are some new buses are very expensive, but the spare parts are cheaper and the workshop network is very good (like Mercedes). Annother criterion is often that the manufacturer must offer spare parts for the buses at least for 15 years after purchase.

Off-course that bidder with lowest price is not an automatically winner, only bidder who meets all requirements for tender can won.

In Coratia we have problems with quality of Mercedes Citaros, especially with engines but also with other parts. From all low floor buses in use it's the least comfortable, in that area it's worser than MAN Lion's City or Irisbus Citelis.

MAN NL 263

Here we have the same problems with the Citaro II. Four or five engine-damages and often problems with the retarder and the electronic. The MAN A20, A21 and A23 from (1998-2005) or the Lion´s City are much better.
